Opportunities with redhotcurry.com
Redhotcurry.com
is a celebration of Asian life in the UK. As a community site we
aim to write articles that will enlighten, entertain or amuse, and
hope to provide useful tools and services too.
Our
simple motto "all the curry and more!" encapsulates our
outlook. Food is often a great unifier of different races - so much
so - that Chicken Tikka Masala rates as this nation's favourite
dish!
But
if you are an Asian living here, it is about more than your last
samosa or curry. Almost everyone we know has a story to tell. About
living a "dual" existence; about mixed marriages, arranged
marriages or failed marriages; filial responsibility, family ties,
racial prejudice, violence, intolerance, inequality and life's struggle.
Redhotcurry.com
aims to bring together Eastern roots with a Western outlook as the
UK's premier lifestyle portal for South Asians.

The
Demographics
First,
some National Statistics. The two major sources about Britain's
ethnic minorities are the 1991 Census of Population and the Labour
Force Survey (LFS)
The
Labour Force Survey estimated that around 3.2 million people in
Great Britain belonged to an ethnic minority group in Spring 1995,
representing around 5.7% of the total population. The Indian group
formed the largest ethnic group at nearly 850,000, followed by the
Pakistani group at around 477,000 and the Bangladeshi group at around
163,000. In total the South Asian ethnic groups comprised 1,490,000.
Correlating that to more recent UK statistics would suggest about
3% (1,800,000) of the current population of 60 million are from
the South Asian ethnic groups.
"About
one person in 15 in Great Britain is from an ethnic minority group.
For each ethnic minority group, children are more likely than older
people to have been born in the United Kingdom. This is particularly
the case among Indians: over nine in ten Indian children under the
age of 16 were born in the United Kingdom compared with only one
in 50 adults aged 35 or over. Progressive ageing of ethnic minorities
is anticipated in the future, but changed will be dependent upon
fertility levels, mortality rates the degree of future net immigration."

Minor
to Major?
From
the above statistics you might assume that the UK Asian population
is too small and too old to target on the web. But you'd be completely
WRONG. The UK Asian population on the web is young (well youngish!),
entrepreneurial, educated and wealthy! Largely male at present,
but Asian females are catching up fast.
Comprehensive
statistics on the above are difficult to find, but work place statistics,
business surveys, industry insights, published information and local
knowledge all help to substantiate the high net worth of the UK
South Asian population.
The
question that remains is - would they buy your product or service?
Why not allow us to help answer this dilemma?
