HFB INVITES ASIANS TO APPLY FOR PUBLIC APPOINTMENTS
(12 January 2005)

HFB invites Asians to apply for Public AppointmentsThe Hindu Forum of Britain, in partnership with the Experience Corps, is setting up a Register of Interest for Hindus interested in public appointments in Government Departments. "We want to invite qualified people who wish to serve the community through public appointments to write to us with information about themselves," urged Ramesh Kallidai, Secretary General of the Hindu Forum of Britain. "We are short-listing candidates to be included in our Register of Interest. Departments like the DWP will use our Register of Interest when vacancies arise in public appointments."

Carmel Heaney of the Experience Corps said, "We want to encourage a cadre of men and women from faith communities as future candidates for DWP positions. The Experience Corps is once again delighted to work closely with the Hindu Forum of Britain - this time to identify people with qualities and skills for public life."

Describing the role of people taking up appointments in public life, Carmel Heaney added, "They will be expected to advise on issues that affect the whole nation. Experience of local, regional and national decision making structures will be an advantage. The Government's agenda is to tackle child poverty, discrimination at work, care for people living with injury and disability, encourage people into work, ensure that people are working in a safe environment, advise on social security, and provide for life after retirement through pensions and other methods. Considering serving on a public appointment would mean the possibility to affect the lives of the most vulnerable in society. The ability to consider complex issues and to think clearly and strategically could impact the lives of the elderly, those facing illness and injury, families living on limited incomes."

Anybody with an interest to serve in public life who possess experience or skills in the above areas is encouraged to apply with a copy of your CV and a one page summary of what you think you can contribute to public life to: The Secretary General, Public Appointments Register of Interest, Hindu Forum of Britain, Cottrell House, 53/63, Wembley Hill Road, Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 8BE or send an email to info@hinduforum.org
