The
Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP,
today (24th November 2011) delivered the Scarman
Lecture, hosted by the People Can charity,
to an invited audience in Brixton. In his
speech, he gave a frank assessment of the
race debate in Britain since the Brixton riots
in 1981 citing economic opportunity as the
next frontier for race equality.

appointed Deputy Chairman of Tata Sons |
Tata
Sons, one of India's leading conglomerates
that also owns Jaguar Landrover, Corus Steel
and Tetley Tea in the UK, at its meeting today
appointed Cyrus P Mistry as Deputy Chairman.
He will work with Ratan N Tata over the next
year and take over from him when Mr Tata retires
in December 2012. Mr Mistry, currently managing
director, Shapoorji Pallonji Group, has been
a director of Tata Sons since August 2006.

enterprise, hosted an independent parliamentary
discussion chaired by Baroness Verma, in celebration
of Global Entrepreneurship Week (14th - 20th
November 2011) . Held at the House of Lords
on Thursday 17th November, the panel debated
focused on the issue of "Tackling Unemployment
& Social Mobility through Business &
Enterprise".

a £500,000 investment in the National
Consortium of University Entrepreneurs, allowing
it to develop student-led enterprise societies
in every university and most colleges in England.

old wins TSBC Start-Up Business of the Year
2011 Award |
Three
young entrepreneurs: Malaik Bryce (13), Georgio
Shirely (17) and Chris Smith (19) were all
named winners of the 'TSBC Start-Up Business
of the Year 2011' Award on Tuesday 1st November
2011. The first of the winning business ideas
was Hydro Heating (an eco-friendly portable
Hydrogen Heater) created by Chris Smith (19)
from Barking & Dagenham. Chris was joint
winner and won a prize worth £2,000.

hosted a CII Indian Business Delegation event
on Friday 14th October 2011 at the county's
Wat Tyler Country Park. 50 delegates from
Indian manufacturing, engineering and services
industries were given a tour of the Green
Centre (an eco building) at the park followed
by site visits to local businesses.

American
firm LKQ Corporation today announced that
it had acquired Euro Car Parts, the largest
distributor of automotive aftermarket parts
in the United Kingdom, from founder Sukhpal
Singh Ahluwalia, a refugee who came to Britain
in 1972 following the expulsion of Asians
from Uganda. The purchase price of the business
was £225 million ($347 million).

Following
recent discussions between Indian-owned Jaguar
Land Rover (JLR) and UK Government ministers,
JLR confirmed a £355 million investment
in a new facility to manufacture all-new,
advanced technology, low-emission engines
in the UK which is is expected to create up
to 750 highly-skilled engineering and manufacturing
jobs.

Livewire award winner Siten Mandalia has won
£10,000 as part of a team who won the
Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Design business
plan competition at Imperial College, London.
Siten's solar-powered mobile phone charger
prototype device can charge several mobile
phones at the same time and can function continuously
on a typical sunny day.

Company after it was abolished by the British
in 1874. Originally established in 1600, The
East India Company is one of the most recognised
brands, it once employed a third of the British

King Ranjit Singh Boparan has acquired a controlling
stake in Northern Foods having aggregated
384, 216, 311 Northern Foods Shares, representing
approximately 90.18% of the shares to which

acquisition of Northern Foods will increase
Boparan's turnover to more than £2 billion
and transform the enlarged group into one
