Hindu Sacred Green Kumbh Yatra celebrates biodiversity

Hundreds of Hindus carrying ornate pots known as ‘kumbhs’ will parade through London, Manchester, Leicester and Dudley from 11th - 25th May 2013 as part of a pilgrimage symbolising their commitment to protecting the environment. The 'Green Kumbh Yatra' is an international initiative featuring one sacred metal kumbh that is being carried across numerous countries to promote biodiversity and conservation.

Hindu Forum of Britain celebrates Diwali at the House of Commons

The Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Attorney General Dominic Grieve and the leader of the Labour Party Ed Miliband all helped to light the lamp for the Hindu Forum of Britain's celebration of Diwali - the festival of lights. The event held at the House of Commons on Wednesday 27th October 2010 was one of the largest gatherings of Hindus in the House.

Foreign Office Minister hosts the annual Eid-ul Fitr reception

UK Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt alongside Minister without Portfolio Baroness Warsi, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles and Home Secretary Theresa May, hosted the annual Eid-ul Fitr reception on 21 September 2010 in London. The reception was attended by over 350 guests from Britain’s Muslim communities.

Sikhs celebrate Nagar Kirtan in Sandwell

Sikhs took to the streets of Sandwell in their tens of thousands to celebrate the 540th birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh religion on Sunday 15th November 2009. The seven Gurdwaras of Sandwell came together to organise a procession (called a Nagar Kirtan) which started from the Guru Har Rai Gurdwara, West Bromwich and finished at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Smethwick.

1000 Diwali lanterns released into the night sky in bid for world peace

After what was a spectacular Diwali firework display on Sunday 18th October at Bhaktivedanta Manor near London, numerous community leaders and festival revelers released 1000 lanterns into the sky in a bid for world peace. 15,000 people attended the Diwali celebrations at the Temple. The central theme of Diwali is the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.

Diwali is not 'the Indians Christmas'

Diwali literally means a "Row of Lights." It is a time a time when Indians all over the world rejoice. Celebrated on the thirteenth/fourteenth day in the dark half of Kartik (October - November), Diwali is the darkest night of the darkest period, yet it is a celebration of light! Diwali is heralded as the triumph of good over evil.
