Aisha Caan, wife of entrepreneur and Dragon's Den judge James Caan,
held an exhibition of her abstract paintings entitled 'Creation'
on Thursday 27 November 2008 in London. The collection of fifty
mainly oil on canvas paintings, inspired by Islam, have taken Aisha
six years to complete. Each painting is a homage to Allah and contains
Arabic calligraphy, creating a form of sacred art within the framework
of contemporary art. Sales of Caan's paintings were brisk on the
night, with an average price ranging between £3000 - £4000.
Aisha Caan's work bridges aspects of
Eastern and Western culture of a spiritual nature. She is influenced
by religion and science, and is inspired by Abstract Expressionist
Artists. Born 1959 in Bombay, Aisha Caan has lived in London since
1967. She studied at the London College of Fashion between1978 and
1981 gaining a Diploma in Fashion Design. She then pursued a course
in Fine art at the Kensington & Chelsea College from 2003 until
2006 and completed an MA in Fine Art at the Central St Martins School
of Art in 2008.
The creation of the universe series
has required Aisha to research into every aspect of creation through
both science and religion. The discoveries of the scientific theories
from the beginning of time to every aspect of God's creation and
the verses in the sacred scriptures, especially in the Quran, have
made the existence of life so much easier for her to comprehend.
