Global downward trend in top rates of personal tax about to reverse

The global decline in top personal income tax rates over the past seven years may be about to reverse according to a survey released today by KPMG International. According to it's Individual Income Tax and Social Security Rate Survey, the top average personal income tax rate dropped 0.3 percent worldwide in 2009 to 28.9 percent from 29.2 percent in 2008. But this trend is likely to reverse due to the need for new sources of funding among governments.

Brits opt for DIY at home this Easter

Data released today (14 April 2009) by Barclaycard Payment Acceptance, confirms that people opted to stay at home this Easter. The data shows an increase in purchases in department and DIY stores and garden centres and a reduction in airline and hotel spending, compared to last year.

Credit crunch wipes out an average of £40,000 of wealth per adult in the UK

The deepening credit crisis has erased around £1.9 trillion of UK household wealth since July 2007. In total, wealth from housing and equities is estimated to have fallen by around 28%, amounting to a total loss of wealth of around 130% of GDP.

Food for thought as Britons cut back on spending

Britons usually love a bargain but it seems our spending on fashion and luxury foodstuffs is being hit as more than 36 million (76%) of us prepare to settle in for a period of belt-tightening. Research from Alliance & Leicester Current Accounts reveals almost 35 million Britons (73%) have made some form of financial cutback recently and one third (34%) expect their disposable income to decrease over the coming six months.
