recently concluded fashion events - Wills
Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) and Lakme
Fashion Week (LFW) - are indicators of the
growth of the Indian fashion industry. But
it needs to overcome many pitfalls before
it can make a real mark on the international
fashion fraternity. Slackness in marketing
strategies is one such problem that is preventing
the acknowledgement of Indian designers across
the globe.

BLACK
IS EVERGREEN IN THE FASHION WORLD |

A
slew of hues may come and go, but no colour
is accorded the open favouritism enjoyed by
black. With fashion designers vouching for
it, black is definitely back. According to
legendary advice, if there's one colour you
must have in your wardrobe, it is black -
a colour that denotes strength and authority,
and is considered formal, elegant and prestigious.
This season, black continues to rule.

RATHORE'S
DESI COLLECTION WINS OVER AUDIENCE |

is known for his stylish, sophisticated and
contemporary designs, which are in perfect
sync with the contemporary Indian man and
woman's taste. And Raghavendra Rathore's collection
on the last day of the Wills Lifestyle India
Fashion Week (WIFW) didn't let anyone down
this time either. The male models donned in
smart, well-fitted Jodhpuri coats prompted
some loud whistles from the female crowd.

NARULA
PRESENTS 'COLLISION' OF STYLES |

Metallic,
metallic and some more metallic. Famed designer
Aki Narula, who had a packed hall during his
show on the final day of the Wills Lifestyle
India Fashion Week (WIFW), displayed an eclectic
collection. The show began with a powerful
siren resounding the hall and a handful of
hooded models walking the ramp with their
torchlights aimed at the audience.

sense of the word. It's trendy and stylish
and totally in sync with the theme of the
fashion week - Autumn-Winter collection. Designer
Ashish Soni's compilation on the last day
of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week
(WIFW) deservedly won a loud applause and
even a couple of whistles during and after
the show.

Driven
by self-introspection and soul searching,
Designer Rina Dhaka rolled out her collection
"Me, Myself and Rina" at the Wills
Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), attempting
to portray the image of her inner soul. "My
collection is an outcome of a lot of self-introspection.
The line asserts that in the fashion world
guided by trends, I want to be myself. The
feel of 'Me, Myself and Rina' is peace in
this world of chaos," Rina told IANS.

in Tarun Tahiliani's 'goddess dresses', a
molten liquid jersey that drips onto the body
like lava and folds around the curves, and
Anamika's deconstructed, tasselled outfits,
models rewrote the fashion agenda at the ongoing
Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW).
"There can be nothing more powerful than
drapes. I just can't get out of their spell.
This is what all men and women wore since
the times of Adam and Eve," said Tahiliani.

architect Frank Lloyd Wright's blueprints
were unleashed as a decorative element in
J.J. Valaya's collection "The Taj Blueprints...Wright
or Wrong?" at the Wills Lifestyle India
Fashion Week. The collection, under the label
Valaya Quantum, revolves around a fictional
world of Wright, who derived inspiration from
India's Taj Mahal to create a contemporary
tribute set in the Grand Canyon, Arizona.

by the vintage colours of Mumbai's old architecture,
designers Shantanu and Nikhil's collection
"Bombay Lieux" at the Wills Lifestyle
India Fashion Week (WIFW) here, presented
the past with a dash of modernity. "The
architect who created the old charm of Bombay
(as Mumbai was earlier known) deeply inspired
us to understand the meaning of the past and
the future, where post-modernisation is influenced
by the sign of the modern lifestyle"

in leather pants and a leopard-print blouse,
pop singer Rageshwari danced to Shakira's
popular number "Hips don't lie"
as she showcased Deepika Gehani's collections
revealing the "wild side of women"
at the Wills Fashion Week here Friday. Gehani's
compilation, named "Unleashed",
is a tribute to the 21st century woman - who
has transformed from a shy person to a woman
with strength.

designer Rohit Bal's collection "Koyla",
inspired by the extremely precious natural
resource, coal, floored the audience at the
Wills Fashion Week here with its myriad shades
of black, blue and brown splashed with dashes
of green and pink. Bal's collection of short
jackets, balloon skirts, evening gowns, long
coats, suits, dhotis and pants drew a lot
of applause at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion
Week (WIFW) late Wednesday evening.

and vegetable colours dominated the ramp as
designer duo of Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna
and Ritu Kumar showcased their collections
at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.
Inspired from the 1970s' stylised wallpapers,
Rohit-Rahul's collection marked butterfly
prints and retro look. Meanwhile, with a concern
for the ecology, Ritu Kumar's collection "Urban
Roots" splashed vegetable colours on
the ramp.

biggest fashion jamboree Wills Lifestyle India
Fashion Week (WIFW) got off to a glitzy start
here Wednesday that saw Bollywood actor Akshaye
Khanna walking the ramp for designer Manav
Gangwani. Four fashion designers - Malini
Ramani, Aparna Chandra, Manav Gangwani and
Siddartha Tytler - showcased their fall-winter
collection as Ramani and Chandra opened the
fashion week and splashed the ramp with rainbow
colours through their vibrant creation.

the western supermodels are paying fatally
to keep thin, the Indian fashion fraternity
says the insistence here is a well-grown body
that suits the sari or the lehenga and the
models must keep healthy. "Indian models
are a healthy lot", they say, and, are
away from harm's way. The
recent death of 21-year-old Brazilian supermodel
Anna Carolina Reston due to anorexia, an eating
disorder, sent shock waves across the fashion
industry worldwide.

wedding and portrait photographer, Maz Mashru
was awarded UK portrait photographer 2006
on Sunday 14th January 2007 at the annual
international photographers' convention run
by the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers
(SWPP). Maz, whose studio is on Belgrave Road,
was lauded for his creativity and talent.
